Step-by-step Instructions

Master the Drop Method for Cable 6 Back

This technique shows you how to effortlessly cross three stitches behind another three to form a right-leaning cable — all without a cable needle.

Refer to the images and instructions below to understand how to safely drop and rearrange the stitches, resulting in a smooth, right-leaning twist with minimal hassle.

Step 1: Work 4th-6th Stitches on LH Needle

Insert the right-hand needle purlwise into the front of the 4th, 5th, and 6th stitches on the left-hand needle.

Step 2: Drop stitches

Drop the six stitches off the left-hand needle.

Step 3: Pick up loose stitches

Insert the left-hand needle into the three loose stitches to pick them up.

Step 4: Slip stitches back

Insert the left-hand needle into the three stitches on the right-hand needle from left to right, and slip them back onto the left-hand needle.

Step 5: Knit the stitches

With the yarn in back. Insert the right-hand needle knitwise into the first stitch on the left-hand needle, wrap the yarn counterclockwise around the right-hand needle, and pull it through to create a new stitch. Slip the old stitch off the left-hand needle. Work the next five stitches in the same way.
