Step-by-step Instructions
Step 1:
With the yarn in front, insert the right-hand needle purlwise into the first stitch on the left-hand needle.
Step 2:
Wrap the yarn counterclockwise around the right-hand needle.
Step 3:
Pull the loop through the existing stitch.
Step 4:
Keep the existing stitch on the left-hand needle. Wrap the yarn counterclockwise around the right-hand needle to create a yarn over.
Step 5:
With the yarn in front, reinsert the right-hand needle purlwise into the same stitch. Wrap the yarn counterclockwise and pull a second loop through — just as you did in steps 2 and 3.
Step 6:
Slip the worked stitch off the left-hand needle.
Result:
You now have three stitches on the right-hand needle, derived from one stitch.
