Step-by-step Instructions

Step 1:

Hold the yarn in back. Insert the right-hand needle knitwise into the first three stitches on the left-hand needle.

Step 2:

Wrap the yarn counterclockwise around the right-hand needle.

Step 3:

Pull the new stitch through all three stitches.

Step 4:

Do not slip the three original stitches off the left-hand needle. Bring the yarn between the needle tips to the front.

Step 5:

With the yarn in front, reinsert the right-hand needle knitwise into the same three stitches.

Steps 6 and 7:

Wrap the yarn counterclockwise again and pull a second loop through — just as in steps 2 and 3.

Step 8:

Slip the three stitches off the left-hand needle.

Result:

There are now three stitches on the right-hand needle, created from the original three stitches on the left-hand needle.
